We are so pleased to offer training with such a talented rider and teacher. Sarah has a very impressive resume and the teaching ability and experience to match. She has worked with many of the top professionals in the industry.
Sarah grew up riding on her parents' farm and received her first pony when she was three years old. She convinced her mother (who was also her trainer) to allow her to enter a jumping class at age four, where she fell off but was determined to get back on and finish the course. Her love for horses and the sport continues today and prompted her to buy a farm in Shelburne Vermont and carry on her family’s tradition by reopening Summerwood Farm. Sarah ran a very successful business in Vermont for several years before relocating to the Carolinas.
Riding under the tutelage of her mom, Judy Shailor and Missy Clark of Warren, Vermont, Sarah competed at horse shows across the country. She became a working student for Clark and successfully competed in the 3’6 Equitation Divisions. Highlights were winning the Washington Jumper Phase at the Devon International Horse Show, qualifying in the top 10 at the Northeast Maclay Regionals for three consecutive years, making the callback at the Maclay Finals at Madison Square Garden (top 20 riders), placing 6th in the New England Junior Medal Finals, and winning top ribbons in the equitation divisions from West Palm Beach to Lake Placid. Sarah was also awarded the sportsmanship award from the New England Equitation Committee and received a scholarship to ride at the University of South Carolina, where she served as Captain of the Team for two years and was a Region High Point Award Winner. She also was selected to compete in a young riders competition in Italy (Dressage Tests and Jumping Phases were required), where she placed third individually for the US Team out of more than 115 International riders.
Sarah now lives in the Charlotte area with her husband and two young sons. Sarah is loved by her clients for her wonderful demeanor with horse and rider. Sarah is also happy to work with other professionals to help clients reach their goals.
